the money
but one must prioritize , so the kravtsov accordion will have to wait .
my first priority is a digital cba ,to be able to play at night .
ill probably get a rolad FR1 b system

Re: I wold buy a dozen accordion having had 3 months ago #5841

Nadav,

The best thing about the FR-1b thru FR-7xb is the ability to play at night with headphones, or anytime of the day with headphones. I like to practice segments, maybe 2 bars for an hour sometimes and this can get really annoying for people listening, but not with the FR-7xb. Headphones on, no sound but to me.

I would like to find a FR-1b cheap someday to have a travel accordion. I just don't want to take my FR-7xb out of the house unless it is to a gig.

I`m feeling a bit of sellers remorse after selling my FR3X. I`m now having thoughts about an FR7X vs a midi install.

Re: I wold buy a dozen accordion having had 2 months, 4 weeks ago #5850

I'd go for the FR7X- putting midi in an acoustic instrument just adds weight and a big pain for repair. Having tried out both, that's my thoughts. I had to fix a reed pad in a high end box that had midi- very difficult to get to. I have a good acoustic box, one with with pickups and hope to get a Roland at some point. Good luck with your decision. Steve

Ah, yes. Servicing it is something to think about.
What do you think about a factory midi (reedless)? I wonder what the pros/cons are?

Re: I wold buy a dozen accordion having had 2 months, 3 weeks ago #5855

Now that's a beast I haven't experienced. I have a dry tuned box that I use guitar pedals with. So far the possibilities seem endless. But then again I don't have the accompaniment stuff with a reedless midi. I have a drummer, bass player and sax that I play with, so as long they're around I won't have to cross that bridge. Steve

OK, decision made. I spent the best part of the day researching new reedless midi boxes , of which there isn`t a whole lot of detailed info available especially in the US.
After I considered the pros/cons and costs of a retrofit midi system and the same for a typical new factory reedless box which both would require a midi controller/arranger plus an amplifier ,my choice became quite clear.
The Roland (with built in midi came out on top , and by a large margin (moneywise or otherwise) since it`s all self contained and even has it`s own built in speakers on both sides.
However the biggest bang for the buck still has to be the FR3X model at half the price of the 7X , which I had recently considered.
The 7X is a bit more versatile (more orchestral instruments)and features but you have to connect it by cord (s) to the floor pedal to access some of those additional features therefore diminishing it`s portability.
The 3X itself already has more than enough orchestral sounds and features to meet the requirements of most professional players and it also weighs significantly less.
That all said, my opinion is that any seasoned accordionist with a good ear should consider a Roland or any other reedless box to be an addition to your present acoustic accordion and not the sole replacement. I highly advise against selling your good acoustic box to finance a new Roland or any other reedless .
It`s obvious to anyone that the Roland is so much more versatile especially with it`s accurate electronically reproduced sampled sounds but I don`t know of any electronic accordion , no matter how good , will match the action and overall nuances of a good quality reeded acoustic accordion . The truth is a Roland and a good acoustic accordion compliment each other very well and each can make you appreciate the other all the more.
Anyway I decided to purchase another FR3X. For 1/2 the cost of the 7X I will learn to live with the keyboard starting at g vs F .

Have you ever looked at the Limex midi system? It is incredibly miniaturized. I had one added to a small CBA. It adds hardly any weight and I don't see how it could be in the way when servicing. It is rather expensive, but probably the best system if you want to combine midi with acoustic.
